I am Dr. Richard Ivy D.C. I have been in practice for over thirty years. I have lived in Arlington, Mansfield since 1955. I have seen a lot of changes here. I have experienced a lot of changes in my practice. It is my desire to have the highest quality of services for my patients, To treat each patient with the best of my ability and to offer as many services and options to my patients as possible. I make treatment affordable, I accept most insurances. I have AFFA Certified personal trainers to help me with rehab, massage therapists, physical therapy, manipulation, pain management and acupuncture. We would love to have you as a patient and it is our commitment to provide quality serice.

What is acupuncture and energy? These are very common questions.

For twenty years I had a problem with anyone practicing acupuncture. All they ever talked about was Chi. Chi or Qi was this unknown energy that surrounded us and was all around the world and somehow connected us to the universe. That didn’t make sense. So I rolled my eyes when my teacher started talking about Chi. “It’s b.s.” I told him. He looked at me and said “I didn’t understand. Chi is nothing more than AM/Fm radio.”

“Why?” I asked.

“Because it has a positive pole and a negative pole, it’s electromagnetic and it’s pulsed. That’s the definition of radio waves.” Therefore if the energy is electrical then it can be measured then the results can be put into the form of a graph and you have a starting point to work with your patient. That makes sense to my western mind. Electricity flows all around our bodies and follows certain pathways called meridians. The electrical system is just one of many systems we have in our bodies ie the cardio-vascular system, the nervous system, the endocrine system etc. Energy comes to us in two ways. First that which you are born with and then that which you acquire. Energy is all around us in the form of sunlight, water, food, air radiation etc.

Acupuncture is simply working with this electrical system of the body. Needles are used to stimulate certain points along the pathway. Each point does something different. Picture going to an elevator with a bunch of buttons. If you want to go to the 5^th floor you push that button. If you push another button you don’t get there. So it is with the needle on the acupuncture point. Not everyone needs acupuncture but we offer it with each treatment..
